During an interview with Taste of Country, Keith explained that he decided many years ago the CMA Awards were not his thing.

“I just, years ago, decided that it wasn’t my bag,” said Keith.

He also opened up about the fact that he thinks the awards have become highly political.

"I think in three years I had 24 nominations. I was 0 for 24 and I went, ‘I can’t beat the politics of this deal. I was a No.1 ticket seller, a No. 1 album seller and I spent 51 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard in a four year span and I went 0 for 24? I was like, ‘This isn’t worth my time.'”

Keith most recently released 35 MPH Town and is putting his focus towards his music, instead of award shows.  The "Rum is the Reason" singer also appeared on the Late Show With Stephen Colbert to perform singles off of his latest studio release.

This year the CMA's will feature performances from Miranda Lambert and Kacey Musgraves. The award show will air live on Wednesday, Nov. 4th on ABC.
