Casey Kasem’s children sue father’s widow for wrongful death

The children of legendary DJ Casey Kasem have filed a wrongful death suit against their father’s widow Jean Kasem.

The Associated Press noted that in the suit filed Wednesday, three of Kasem’s adult children and his brother claimed that the actions of the radio personality’s wife contributed to his death.

The children had a long feud with their father’s wife and said that because of that they were not given access to him before he died. Furthermore, Kerri, Julie, Michael Kasem and their uncle Mouner, allege that Jean Kasem committed elder abuse.

“Casey’s early death occurred as a direct and proximate result of Jean’s neglect and physical abuse of Casey,” the lawsuit stated.

Earlier this year, prosecutors decided against charging Jean with elder abuse, which was the family’s motivation behind filing this suit.

“We would rather see her in jail than receive one dime,” Kerri Kasem said. “We don’t care about the money. We care about justice.”

Kasem died in June 2014 at the age of 82. He was later laid to rest at Vestre Gravlund in Norway against the wishes of his children who wanted him to be buried at Glendale’s Forest Lawn Memorial Park in California.
