Christopher McQuarrie may return for 'Mission: Impossible 6'

After delivering one of the best Mission: Impossible movies yet in Rogue Nation, Christopher McQuarrie may be coming back for more.

According to Variety, McQuarrie, director of the most recent installment in the series, is in talks to write and direct Mission: Impossible 6.

If true, this would be a major shift for the franchise, as so far no two Mission: Impossible movies have been directed by the same person. Each one has allowed a new creator to come in and put their stamp on the serieswith huge talents like J.J. Abrams and Brad Bird stepping in and then letting someone else tackle the sequel.

Still, Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation was one of the best reviewed and most financially successful installments yet, so if McQuarrie could recapture that in a sixth installment, it would be more than welcome.

Other than Tom Cruise himself, we don't yet know which members of the cast will return. In the meantime, Cruise is currently shooting Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, as he's the kind of actor to take a break from one action franchise by doing another action franchise.

Mission: Impossible 6 is expected to go into production in Au. 2016 and it's aiming for a 2017 release date.
