CMA hosts Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood make fun of Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert's divorce

Country Music Awards hosts Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood followed through with Blake Shelton’s suspicion that he and ex-wife Miranda Lambert would be the butt of jokes during Wednesday night’s show.

That’s exactly what happened during the opening monologue, during which they pointed out the split that “rocked” country music this year.

"Of course, we can't ignore the breakup that really rocked our world. The one that’s on everybody’s mind,” Underwood began. “Two people in this very room whom we all know and love... Splitsville.”

Paisley continued, “Look, they’re not even sitting together,” while a camera panned to Miss Piggy sitting in front of Kermit.

"In a completely different topic of no relation…Howdy, Blake!"

Shelton was ready for it, and smiled and waved to the cameras. But he has already moved on with Gwen Stefani, which both of their reps confirmed ahead of the event. She even traveled to Nashville with him, where he attended and performed.

Late last month, Shelton told Seth Meyers on Late Night that the CMAs would be “awkward” this year.

“There’s gotta be one about me and Miranda,” he said about the jokes. “[Host] Brad Paisley is not doing his job if he doesn’t look down there and go ‘Ha ha!’ You have to address the elephant in the room.”
