Colts QB Andrew Luck to miss 2-6 weeks with kidney laceration

Just as it looked like the Indianapolis Colts were finally getting back on track by beating the previously undefeated Denver Broncos, the team took another hit. Quarterback Andrew Luck could be out anywhere between two and six weeks because of an injury he suffered Sunday.

The Colts said that Luck suffered a kidney laceration during the fourth quarter and a partial tear of an abdominal muscle. The team doesn’t think he will need surgery.

“The injuries happened at the end of an early fourth quarter scramble (Sunday) when Andrew was doing everything he could to get us the win,” head coach Chuck Pagano said in a team statement. “Andrew was sore after the game and was feeling a little worse Monday afternoon so we sent him to get tests.”

ESPN reports that Pagano also called the injury to Luck “one heck of a blow.” A Colts source also told ESPN that the team thinks Luck “will be fine, but we obviously need to be certain he's 100 percent.”

The Colts already had to star Matt Hasselbeck twice this season after Luck suffered a right shoulder injury. Hasselbeck did win both of those games, but they were against the Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans.

The Colts are currently 4-5 and are on a bye this week, so they don’t play again until Nov. 22, when they face the Atlanta Falcons. Despite the losing record, they are leading the AFC South.
