Erykah Badu throws shade at Iggy Azalea during Soul Train Awards (Video)

It seems like ever since Iggy Azalea got into the music business her peers have dissed her skills or lack thereof at one point or another and now Erykah Badu can be added to that list.

MTV noted that Miss Badu hosted the Soul Train Awards on Sunday night and threw shade at Azalea saying that what she’s doing is not rap. Immediately after the “But You Caint Use My Phone” singer said that, Twitter erupted.

Badu, however, was just trying to be funny … we think. After all it was part of her opening monologue in which she poked fun at herself as well.

“As you know, I am the queen of neo soul and people say I have this common effect on rappers,” she said. “That I make them change gods and wear crochet hats, shoulder pads. So they have banned me from all of the hip-hop awards with a sign saying ’Erykah Badu, leave our rappers alone.'”

In her bit, the 44-year-old was trying to make a point that the show was going to focus on R&B, not rap music.
