‘Gods of Egypt’ trailer with Gerard Butler has plenty of action, no real Egyptians

Lionsgate and Summit released the first trailer for Gods of Egypt, the latest swords and sandal movie to die in theaters during the winter.

The movie gives Gerard Butler a chance to dust off his outfit from 300 to play Set, an evil god who has taken over an Ancient Egypt that curiously looks more like a planet in a science fiction movie than an ancient society.

Anyway, Set rips out the eye of Horus (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and, in order to stop Set’s reign, has to get that eye back. Along the way, Horus meets mere mortal Bek (The Giver’s Brenton Thwaites), who will somehow overcome incredible odds to defeat Set. Bek might also want a pair of headphones if he wants to avoid all the BROOOM noises.

Gods of Egypt was directed by Alex Proyas, the director of I, Robot and Knowing. The rest of the cast includes Abby Lee, Courtney Eaton, Geoffrey Rush, Elodie Yung and Chadwick Boseman. And yes, none of the leads are Egyptian.

Gods of Egypt hits theaters on Feb. 26, 2016.
