‘Gotham’ Recap: “Rise of the Villains: The Son of Gotham”

A woman is being robbed in the street and is quickly rescued by an unknown savior. We find out that it was one of Father Creel’s monks and they sacrifice the man’s life while telling him, “The day of reckoning is at hand!”

Jim, Barnes and the rest of GCPD attend Officer Parks’ funeral. Jim visits Theo in prison and tells him he can’t wait to see him be put away tomorrow at the hearing. Jim returns home and feels responsible for Parks’ murder. Leslie tries to calm him down but he is not hearing it and is concerned about the hearing.

Jim is at GCPD trying to link any evidence between Theo and the several murders he is responsible for. Barnes returns to work and assigns Jim a new case. Jim and Bullock ignore his request and go investigate a location that Theo tried to buy last week. The location is a Chinese massage parlor which we see has been discovered by Father Creel and his monks.

Selina continues to warn Bruce to not trust Silver or her family. Bruce wants the truth about his parents’ death and tries to convince Silver to help him. He tells her that he will pay for Theo’s legal fees if he can get the name. He kisses Silver and whispers something to her. Selina is listening nearby and Bruce says he will get the name. We notice men in a van watching Bruce. Bruce gets a voicemail from Silver to meet her. She has the name. Bruce goes to meet her and discovers that she has been kidnapped by the same men that were watching him. Bruce reluctantly gets in the van with them.

Jim and Bullock arrive at the parlor and find women running outside covered in blood. They discover a few dead bodies and Jim is attacked by one of the monks. He tries to interrogate him but the monk just promises the day of reckoning is here and kills himself. Jim is telling Captain Barnes the latest information about the monks. They were present during the old days of Gotham and they believe in purification…through blood. Jim believes that the the monks could be the link they need to put Theo away. Barnes wants Jim to stop whatever he believes is going to happen.

Edward is back at work and dealing with his new roommate Penguin constantly calling him. He lies to Leslie about Ms. Kringle, saying that she left town with her ex-boyfriend. Leslie offers sympathy for him. This new attitude of Edward is slowly taking over him.

Bruce and Silver are being held captive that want to know what Theo told Bruce about his parents’ murder. They refuse to talk and the man threatens to torture Bruce when Silver confesses she doesn’t have the name or any information. He returns, ready to torture Silver next when she promises that her uncle will make him pay. He is about to cut off her finger when she yells the name Malone as the person who killed the Wayne’s. Selina and Bruce walk out from the back room, revealing this entire scene was a set-up to get information from Silver. Bruce now sees Silver for the person she truly is. We also see that Bruce has been manipulating Silver. Bruce is slowly growing up and this was a nice scene of foreshadowing the future for him.

Bullock and Jim realize that the sacrifices happening by the monks are almost complete. They investigate the sewers where they find a dead body and are attacked by one of the monks. They knock him out and Jim is able to find out that their master plan is that “the son of Gotham” will die.

Alfred is looking for Bruce and arrives at Theo’s apartment. He finds Tabitha there and the two engage in an intense fight which leads Alfred injured and is barely able to escape. Theo Galavan’s hearing is underway and Harvey Dent is leading the prosecution. Aubrey James shocks everyone by saying Theo didn’t kidnap him, but blames it on Penguin. Jim is shocked that Theo found a way to manipulate James. A lack of evidence leads to the release of Theo. Theo wants to move forward and gives a phony speech and offers peace with Jim. Jim punches him in the face and is dragged outside where two men dressed as cops tase him and take him away.

Edward calls Penguin and tells him to dispose of Ms. Kringle’s glasses. He agrees and then finds out from his associate Gabe that Theo has been released. This enrages Penguin. Bruce and Selina are talking at Wayne Manor where he tells Selina what he said to Silver. It is obvious he was saying this as these are his true feelings for Selina.

Jim is being held prisoner by Theo where he tells Jim about the monks and how they have been protecting his family for years. Jim figures out that his plan is to kill Bruce Wayne and take control of the city. Theo fights with Jim briefly then orders his men to kill him. They begin to beat down Jim when Penguin rescues a beaten down Jim and demands to know where Theo is.

Bruce is waiting alone for Alfred when Theo walks into his study. He confronts Bruce and when Bruce asks him what he wants…Theo smiles and replies with “I’m here for your life” as he pulls out a knife…
