Hakeem Nicks re-signs with New York Giants

The New York Giants re-signed receiver Hakeem Nicks on Tuesday.

According to Fox Sports, which first reported the signing, Nicks will replace Victor Cruz who is on injured reserve.

Cruz is on injured reserve due to a calf injury and he will undergo calf surgery. He has announced that he will not play this season.

Nicks was the Giants' first-round draft pick in 2009 and played for them for five years. In the 2010 and 2011 regular season he had combined for 2,224 yards and 18 touchdowns on 155 receptions. During the playoffs in 2011, he had 444 yards and four touchdowns on 28 receptions as he helped the Giants win the Super Bowl that year. Nicks had 56 receptions for 896 yards and no touchdowns in 2013 and become a free agent after that season as the Giants didn’t re-sign him, according to ESPN.

Last year, he had 38 receptions for 405 yards and four touchdowns with the Indianapolis Colts in a one-year deal. Nicks spent training camp with the Tennessee Titans this year, but he was among the final cuts.

It is unknown how he will fit in with the Giants. He will likely be the backup for Odell Beckham Jr., Rueben Randle, and Dwayne Harris.

The Giants are 5-5 have a bye week this week. They play again on Nov. 29 at Washington.
