Houston Texans claim Brandon Weeden on waivers

The Houston Texans claimed quarterback Brandon Weeden off of waivers on Thursday.

On Sunday, the Texans starting quarterback Brian Hoyer won’t play  due to a concussion that he suffered on Monday night against the Cincinnati Bengals. He is still in the concussion protocol and T.J. Yates will start at quarterback for the Texans on Sunday. Weeden will likely then be the backup quarterback, according to CBS Sports.

Weeden was drafted by the Cleveland Browns as a first-round pick in 2012. While with the team he completed 55.9 percent of his passes and threw for 23 touchdowns and had 26 interceptions.

The Dallas Cowboys signed Weeden last year and he started four games in relief of Tony Romo and was winless in those games. He is 0-3 and has thrown for 738 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions in four games this season, according to ESPN. He was replaced by Matt Cassel and was released by the Cowboys earlier this week.

The Texans waived cornerback Jumal Rolle to make room on the roster for Weeden.
