John Malkovich, Robert Rodriguez make a movie you can’t see for 100 years

Actor John Malkovich and director Robert Rodriguez are working together on a new project, but it won’t be in the running for the 2015 Oscars. It’s possible it could be considered for the 2115 Oscars, though.

The two are currently making a film called 100 Years and it’s being billed as “The movie you will never see.” However, this isn’t some creative decision on the Sky Kids filmmaker’s part. No, it’s just part of a promotional campaign for the high-end brand Louis XIII Cognac.

Louis XIII said Thursday that the film was locked away in a vault, which will not open for another 100 years. The film won’t have its world premiere until Nov. 18, 2015 at the House of Louis XIII in Cognac, France.

“LOUIS XIII is a true testament to the mastery of time, and we sought to create a proactive piece of art that explores the dynamic relationship of the past, the present, and the future,” Ludovic du Plessis, Global Executive Director for LOUIS XIII Cognac said in a statement.” Four generations of LOUIS XIII cellar masters put a lifetime of passion into a bottle of LOUIS XIII, yet they will never taste the resulting masterpiece. We are thrilled that this talented actor and creative filmmaker were inspired to join us on this artistic endeavor.”

100 Years wasn’t cheap to make. Rodriguez used CGI throughout the film and innovative set design. The costumes were designed by Nina Proctor, who has worked on several of Rodriguez’s films and Shuya Chang was picked as Malkovich’s co-star.

“When I was first approached I really loved the idea... I mean, in a way I wish all the films I made wouldn't have been seen for a hundred years. I don't know how much that would change the way they are regarded,” Malkovich said.

While we won’t be able to see the full film for a long time, Louis XIII did release three teasers on iO9. You can check them out below.
