Free-agent starting pitcher Jordan Zimmermann agreed to a deal with the Detroit Tigers on Sunday.
According to ESPN, Zimmerman’s deal is for five years and $110 million. The deal is pending a physical.
Zimmermann had been given a qualifying offer by the Washington Nationals but turned it down. The Nationals will get a draft pick, since they made a qualifying offer to Zimmermann and he signed with another team.
"For a kid from a small town in central Wisconsin, stepping on the mound and competing on the Major League level is a dream come true," Zimmermann wrote in a season-ending massage thanking the Nationals fans for their support, MLB.com notes. "It's a dream, yet also a responsibility that I don't take lightly."
Zimmermann has been with the Nationals for the last seven seasons and is a two-time All Star. This year, he was 13-10 with a 3.66 ERA, according to CBS Sports, which first reported the deal. He has a career ERA of 3.32 and is the Nationals all-time leader in wins, innings, strikeouts, and games started.
The Tigers entered the offseason wanting to get two pitchers to round out their starting rotation and adding Zimmermann helps them do that. Zimmermann becomes the Tigers latest addition, as they acquired closer Francisco Rodriguez and outfielder Cameron Maybin in a pair of trades this offseason.
