Loretta Lynn to receive 'Legend' award at Billboard's women in music event

Country superstar Loretta Lynn will be honored at the upcoming Billboard's Women in Music event. Lynn is receiving the "Legend" award. This is the first time ever that the award has been given out.

Rolling Stone reported that Lynn was selected because of her "historic contributions to the industry and artistry of American music." Lynn has had 29 top ten albums on the Billboard charts, of those 29 11 have reached the number one spot on the charts.

The event will be taking place on December 11th in New York City. Lynn has a busy schedule coming up after receiving this honor, she is currently getting ready to release her brand new studio album, Full Circle which will be available on March 4.

Lynn will not be the only name in country music honored during the ceremony. Kelsea Ballerini will be receiving the "Rising Star" award and will be performing during the event.

Billboard's Women in Music event will air one week later after it takes place on the Lifetime network.

Pink and Taylor Swift have both been honored previously during the event.
