‘Lost In Space’ remake series heads to Netflix

A remake of the iconic science fiction series Lost In Space, which celebrated its 50th anniversary this year, is no longer lost. The Legendary TV project has landed at Netflix.

According to Deadline, there was competitive bidding for the show, but Netflix came out on top. It is being written by Dracula Untold writers Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. Neil Marshall, who has directed episodes of Game of Thrones and Constantine, will likely direct and is among the executive producers.

Kevin Burns of Synthesis Entertainment has played a major role in getting this project done and created Synthesis Entertainment with Jon Jashni in hopes of reviving the series. Since Jashni is now the CCO at Legendary, it’s a reunion project for the two.

Lost In Space originally aired on CBS from 1965 to 1968 over three seasons and was created by Irwin Allen. There have been attempts to bring the series back in the past, including a 2003 pilot that didn’t make it to series. There was also a film released in 1998 that starred William Hurt, but received negative reviews.

The original series was set in a future 1997, with the U.S. planning on colonizing space. The Robinson family leaves earth on Jupiter 2, but their mission was sabotaged by Dr. Zachary Smith and they are put off course.

Lost In Space is just the latest TV show to get the remake treatment. Others currently in development include MacGyver and The A-Team.
