Patriots pull off dramatic win at Giants, Julian Edelman breaks bone in foot

The New England Patriots figured out how to stay undefeated this season, but have suffered another devastating blow. Wide receiver Julian Edelman is going to need surgery and might not play again until the postseason.

During the first quarter against the New York Giants, Edelman suffered a left foot injury and never returned to the field. According to Fox Sports’ Mike Garafolo, Edelman did break a bone in his foot and will have to undergo surgery.

It is likely that the Edelman will miss the remainder of the season, but there is hope that he could be back for the postseason. He has been the best wide receiver and quarerback Tom Brady’s favorite target. He has 61 catches for 692 yards and caught seven touchdowns through the first nine games of the season. With him out, the Patriots will have to ask more from Danny Amendola, Brandon LaFell, Aaron Dobson and Scott Chandler.

As NFL.com notes, the Patriots are already without another big offensive weapon, running back Dion Lewis. He was injured during the team’s win over the Washington Redskins.

The Patriots beat the Giants in dramatic fashion Sunday afternoon with a 27-26 win. The Giants took a late 24-26 fourth quarter lead, but gave Brady the ball back with too much time on the clock. That set up a 54-yard field goal from Stephen Gostkowski, who made it without a problem.

The Patriots are now 9-0 and two games ahead of the Denver Broncos for the top seed in the AFC. The Giants, meanwhile, are 5-5, but still have the NFC East lead.
