Patton Oswalt joins 'Mystery Science Theater 3000' reboot

The Mystery Science Theater 3000 reboot has just added comedian Patton Oswalt to the cast.

In an update on the show's official Kickstarter, it was announced that Oswalt will be playing TV's Son of Frank, the offspring of Frank Conniff from the original show.

On the Kickstarter page, Joel Hodgson described Oswalt as one of the funniest stand-ups ever, also noting that he's an articulate and witty soul. Hodgson revealed that he didn't actually contact the comedian until after the Kickstarter had already launched and he even posted a text exchange between the two that took place just over a week ago.

This means that both of the new Mads will be the next generation of previous villains, as it was also recently announced that Felicia Day will be playing Kinga Forrester, daughter of Dr. Clayton Forrester. The new host will be Jonah Ray, Crow T. Robot and Tom Servo will be voiced by Hampton Yount and Baron Vaughn respectively.

The Mystery Science Theater 3000 Kickstarter has already raised $3.2 million, which guarantees the production of three new episodes. Episodes 4 through 6 will be funded at $3.3 million, and if they can get up to $5.5 million, the gang will put together a full 12 episodes. The crowdfunding campaign will end on Dec. 12.
