Peter Capaldi will return for 'Doctor Who' Season 10

The future of Peter Capaldi's Doctor on Doctor Who hasn't been entirely clear, but now we know for sure he'll be around at least until the end of Season 10.

In an interview with Variety, showrunner Steven Moffat confirmed that the 12th incarnation of The Doctor will be back next year, noting, "Peter Capaldi is going nowhere."

That's pretty good news, although it's not quite clear if Season 11 would be in the cards for the actor. Capaldi's two most recent predecessors both departed the show after three seasons, and Season 10 would be Capaldi's third year playing The Doctor.

In terms of the series as a whole, Moffat says he doesn't see the current Doctor Who reboot ending anytime soon.

"It is definitely going to last five more years, I’ve seen the business plan," Moffat said. "It’s not going anywhere. And I think we can go past that. It’s television’s own legend. It will just keep going."

Not everything on Doctor Who will last forever, though. As we previously reported, Jenna Coleman (Clara Oswald) will be leaving the series at the end of the current ninth season. Her final episode will air on December 5. In case there was any ambiguity about her character coming back down the line, Moffat confirmed that she will "never return." Then again, as Sherlock viewers will know all too well, Moffat has lied to the fans before.
