Peter Mayhew 'Chewbacca' writes letter to Star Wars fan friend's death

Peter Mayhew, who is known for playing Chewbacca in the Star Wars franchise, is helping a young fan cope with the death of a close friend.

Mayhew wrote a letter to a young fan, Liam, whose friend, Sam, died three weeks ago in a sudden accident. The two had planned to go together to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which will be released on Dec. 18.

"I am sorry to hear that you won't be able to see the new Star Wars movie with your friend Sam," wrote Mayhew. "I know that sometimes things happen and we can't figure out why and all we feel is sadness. It's important to remember the fun you had with Sam. Best friends are never really gone, they live on forever in our hearts and memories. I know that you are going to love Star Wars. I wish you the very best, and May The Force Be With You!"

Sam's father, Scott Miller of Watterson, Texas, posted the letter on Reddit.  His older sister also took to Reddit to talk about his life and love of Star Wars. "Sam was seven, and while he may have only been here for a short time in retrospect, he lived more than most adults I know. And boy, did he love Star Wars, I know Sam would have loved to know that Chewy knows who he is."
During an interview with London's Radio Times, Mayhew explained that Liam's grandmother is a friend of my wife's sister, which was how Mayhew heard about the situation.
