A remake of Christopher Nolan's 'Memento' is on the way

One of Christopher Nolan's best films is getting the remake treatment.

AMBI Pictures plans to finance and produce a remake of 'Memento,' the studio said in a statement. This news comes after AMBI acquired the Exclusive Media Group film library, which also includes movies like 'Cruel Intentions' and 'Donnie Darko.'

“People who’ve seen 'Memento' 10 times still feel they need to see it one more time," said AMBI founding partner Andrea Iervolino. "This is a quality we feel really supports and justifies a remake. The bar is set high thanks to the brilliance of Christopher Nolan, but we wouldn’t want it any other way.”

AMBI's other founding partner, Monika Bacardi, added that they intend to stay true to Nolan's vision and deliver a movie that is just as "edgy, iconic and award-worthy as the original."

Released in 2001, 'Memento' tells the story of Leonard (Guy Pearce), a man whose search for his wife's killer is hindered by his inability to retain memories. It's remembered partially for its unique narrative style, as the entire film plays out in reverse order. Memento also helped launch the career of Christopher Nolan ('The Dark Knight,' 'Inception') after it grossed $39 million in limited release.

Nolan and his brother Jonathan were nominated for their screenplay at the 2002 Academy Awards.
