Robin Williams’ widow Susan Schneider doesn’t blame actor ‘one bit’ for taking his own life

Susan Schneider, the widow of beloved comedian Robin Williams, has spoken out for the first time since her husband’s death in August 2014. In one interview, Schneider said that she doesn’t blame Williams for committing suicide after he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

As previously reported, Schneider sat down with ABC News’ Amy Robach. The full interview aired on Good Morning America this morning.

“If Robin was lucky, he would've had maybe three years left. And they would've been hard years. And it's a good chance he would've been locked up,” Schneider, 50, told ABC News.

She also said that she doesn’t blame Williams “one bit” for taking his own life. He only had three years left to live, Schneider said.

The couple were together for seven years and married for three. “It’s the best love I ever dreamed of. You know, it’s what I always dreamed of love would be … really based on just honor, love, respect,” she said.

Schneider also recalled the final conversation she had with him on the night of Aug. 10, 2014. He wanted to give her a foot massage just before they were going to sleep, but she told him he didn’t have to do that. They said goodnight and she later saw him on his iPad in his office. They said good night again.

On Aug. 11, 2014, Schneider left without seeing Williams because she thought he was asleep. He was supposed to call her when he woke up, but he never did. His assistant called her, sounding upset. So she rushed home.

“And I just wanted to see my husband. And I got to see him ... and I got to pray with him. And I got to tell him, ‘I forgive you 50 billion percent, with all my heart. You're the bravest man I've ever known.’ You know, we were living a nightmare,” Schneider recalled.

Schneider also spoke with People about Diffuse Lewy Body Dementia, a brain disease that Williams was suffering from and listed on the coroner’s report.

“It was not depression that killed Robin,” Schneider told People. “Depression was one of let's call it 50 symptoms and it was a small one.”
