Toho reveals international title for next Godzilla movie

Godzilla is officially returning to Japan next year, and the movie now has its international title.

Toho's new Godzilla film will reportedly be called Godzilla Resurgence, according to August Ragone of The Good, The Bad And Godzilla.

This name was revealed in a leaked booklet from the American Film Market, though its veracity isn't totally confirmed at this point. At the conference in Santa Monica, Toho evidently screened a promo reel for potential overseas distribution.

Prior to this, Toho's new movie was known as Shin Gojira, the Japanese title that roughly translates to True Godzilla. This is meant to indicate that the film isn't a remake, but rather the return of the same Godzilla from the established franchise. It also clearly separates it from the 2014 American reboot.

Godzilla Resurgence will feature the biggest version of the monster ever put to screen, as we previously reported. He was 355 feet tall in the 2014 American film, so we can expect this new one to get pretty close to 400 feet. For comparison, Godzilla was 164 feet during his first appearance in 1954.

Godzilla Resurgence will hit theaters in Japan in summer 2016. An overseas release has not yet been announced.
