Tony Romo out for season with fractured collarbone

As they sat down for Thanksgiving dinner yesterday many Dallas Cowboys fans watched in horror as quarterback Tony Romo suffered another injury that will now definitely end his season and likely the team’s playoff chances.

Just one week after returning from an injury he suffered on Sept.20 against the Philadelphia Eagles, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said a CT scan revealed Friday that Romo has a hairline fracture in his collarbone.

ESPN noted that Jones also said that Romo will not have surgery, but won't be fully healed until March, effectively ending his season and in all likelihood the team’s playoff hopes.

After Romo’s injury in Week 2, the team went on to loss every game without its starting quarterback. When Romo returned last week, however, the Cowboys won and improved to 3-7. But even in a weak NFC East many wondered if Romo was being rushed back to play in what looked to be a lost season.

"We felt that the risk was worth the potential of having him be the impact he can be and he is on our team," Jones said. "And really having a fairy tale turnaround and doing something that was special, to me that's what we're about. That's what sports is about. You shouldn't ever quit trying to do something that is extraordinary.”

For the Cowboys something that would be extraordinary now is if the team could actually win a game without Romo.
