WGA members vote 'Annie Hall' funniest screenplay of all time

There's a lot of debate over what is the funniest movie of all time, but members of the Writers Guild of America have just come to a consensus.

The WGA has voted Annie Hall funniest screenplay ever, the organization announced during a ceremony at the Arclight Cinerama Dome in Hollywood. The guild's list complies the 101 greatest comedy scripts.

Below Annie Hall, the rest of the WGA's Top 10 consists of Some Like it HotGroundhog Day, Airplane!, Tootsie, Young Frankenstein, Dr. Strangelove, Blazing Saddles, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and National Lampoon’s Animal House.

In terms of newer scripts, Kristen Wiig's Bridesmaids now holds the #16 spot, and Borat, The HangoverShaun of the Deadand Anchorman were also added.

Six other Allen films made the list as well: Sleeper, Bananas, Take the Money and RunBroadway Danny Rose, Love and Death and Manhattan.

At the ceremony, some of Hollywood's top writers discussed the influence of these movies. Alexander Payne (Election, The Descendants) showed particular appreciation for Airplane!.

"Airplane! is a towering masterpiece, as important to comedy as Psycho is to thrillers” Payne said, reports Variety.

Buck Henry, whose script for The Graduate received the #29 spot, received a standing ovation, and Randi Mayem Singer (Mrs. Doubtfire) noted, "The Graduate is why I became a writer."
