Zoe Kazan cast in Lena Dunham's HBO show 'Max,' will replace Lisa Joyce

Although Girls is expected to end after its sixth season, that doesn't mean Lena Dunham and HBO are parting ways. The writer and actress has another series lined up called Max, and it has just found a new lead.

According to Deadline, Zoe Kazan has been cast as the lead in Max. She will be replacing Lisa Joyce, the actress who was originally set for the role as announced a few weeks ago.

Max is described as a raucous comedy taking place in 1963 and following the struggles of second-wave feminism. Kazan will play the titular character, Maxine Woodruff, a struggling magazine writer searching for liberation. Deadline is reporting that there were some behind the scenes arguments over Maxine's character, which ultimately led to the recasting.

Kazan is known for her work in movies like Revolutionary Road, It's Complicated, and What If. She also wrote and starred in the 2012 romantic comedy Ruby Sparks.

Though Dunham serves as executive producer and director for the Max pilot, it will be written by Murray Miller, a Girls producer and writer of HBO's 7 Days in Hell. Two other Girlsproducers, Jenni Konner and Ilene Landress, are also headed over to Max.
