Disneyland to close attractions to make way for ‘Star Wars’

With Star Wars: The Force Awakens still riding high in theaters, Disney Parks is going to start getting prepared for a Star Wars takeover of Disneyland.

On Saturday, The Los Angeles Times reported that Disneyland will shutter 10 attractions and restaurants in January. Some will only be closed temporarily, while others will never come back.

Amazingly, while Disneyland will offer less things for visitors to do while the Star Wars area is built, Disney is charging more for tickets. Annual passes jumped as much as 31 percent recently, but Disney isn’t worried about an attendance drop off. After all, it is Disneyland, which has existed since 1955.

The Star Wars area will cover 14 acres and will be the largest expansion in Disneyland history. Most of the attractions that will be closed permanently are in the Frontierland area, including the Big Thunder Ranch petting zoo and Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree. Those will be closed starting on Jan. 10. Rivers of America attractions will be closed temporarily.

It’s still not clear when the new Star Wars land will open, but Disney made sure to increase Star Wars’ presence during the fall in the lead-up to The Force Awakens’ release.

Hopefully for Disney World visitors in Orlando , not much will be closed off when Star Wars land begins construction there.
