‘Game of Thrones’: Bran Stark makes dramatic return in season six

After a one-season absence, Bran Stark will be returning to Game of Thrones and he will have a very dramatic storyline.

We’ve known for awhile that Isaac Hempstead-Wright, 16, will be back to play the youngest member of the Stark family in season six, but Entertainment Weekly got to reveal a bit more of his storyline. His story won’t just pick up from when we last saw him, but he will emerge as a much more seasoned character.

Bran is taller, has a shorter haircut and has learned much from the Three-Eyed Raven, now voiced by Max Von Sydow. “There are certain lines that you think are almost fillers, like, ‘He’s over there,’ but when Max von Sydow says them, he can make it sound like it’s the most important news you’ve ever heard,” Hempstead-Wright told EW of Von Sydow.

Hempstead-Wright said he was first worried that his character was going to die when showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss. However, they explained to him that they needed to skip past all of Bran’s time in a cave.

“And they’re exactly right,” he said. “I would have just been sitting in a cave going, ‘Oh, I can nearly do it now.’”

The actor said that he has his best scenes yet in season six, but of course, he wouldn’t be specific. He did say that flashbacks will be involved with his story, which is a bit surprising since Thrones has usually avoided using those. “It’s quite Inception-y,” he said.

Thrones will return in April.
