‘Hidden’ DVD review: starring Alexander Skarsgård, Andrea Riseborough and Emily Alyn Lind

On Oct. 6, Warner Brothers released the movie Hidden on DVD. While not an entirely original idea, the movie is satisfying with an interesting twist and decent ending. Lovers of sci-fi will find it a truly entertaining addition to their video library.

Ray, Claire and their daughter, Zoe, seem like any normal family aside from their bad circumstances. They’re living in an underground bunker after a virus outbreak on the surface. They’re hiding from creatures they call “Breathers.” When a fire in their bunker leads to smoke and ash marking their hatch, will the “Breathers” find them? What are the creatures really and will the family be slaughtered?

The movie is a typical sci-fi flick involving monsters with a twist, but with the family as its focus, it has heart. While following the sci-fi formula, the story is still enjoyable. The actors all give believable performances and the relationship between father and daughter is lovely. The twist is something most won’t see coming, although you have an idea what aspect of the story it will affect.

If you’re looking for a scary movie night film to watch with your spouse or sci-fi loving buddies, you could do worse than this one. While not a completely original concept, it’s entertaining, spooky, and makes you feel for the characters involved. And truly, isn’t the whole reason for watching a movie the entertainment factor? This film certainly has that. Make a point of watching just for fun.
