New information released about 'Ghostbusters' reboot characters

We've been wondering for a while now who the new characters in the Ghostbusters reboot will be, and we now have official descriptions straight from the studio.

Columbia Pictures has shared some new character posters with Entertainment Weekly, Time, People and InStyle. Accompanying each one is some juicy information about the new heroes.

First off, Kristen Wiig will be playing Erin Gilbert, who is described as a particle physicist and academic firebrand. She also does not have much of a social life.

Kate McKinnon plays Jillian Holtzmann, a nuclear engineer and munitions expert.

Melissa McCarthy will portray Abby Yates, a paranormal researcher and supernatural scientist.

Finally, Leslie Jones plays Patty Tolan, a ghost tracker and municipal historian.

Director Paul Feig told Entertainment Weekly that the chemistry between the cast was absolute perfection.

“They are four incredibly talented women, each with a unique voice and style of comedy,” Feig adds. “The fact that they meshed so well and complemented each other so well made this team of paranormal warriors a very interesting and fully-rounded group."

Besides a look at each of these characters, this official poster also reveals that the new movie will thankfully use the same Ghostbusters font and logo as in the classics. To see the whole group together, check out the official cast photo.

Ghostbusters will be released on July 15, 2016.
