Rave star Guru Josh dead at 51

It has been confirmed that musician Guru Josh died on Monday. He was 51.

The Guardian reported that news of his passing came from his agent Sharron Elkabas, who said that Josh died in Spain. However, the details surrounding his death remain unclear.

His real name was Paul Walden and he had been living in Ibiza where he ran a graphics design business and a rave promotions company. He was a staple on the rave music scene for years and is best known for his 1990 club anthem “Infinity.”

In 2008, “Infinity” was re-released and became a hit yet again. Walden was asked how he felt about a return to music after the song’s second success.

“What do I want to do for the rest of my life, keep churning out rubbish? Music has been good to me, but now I get more excitement out of setting up new businesses,” he said.

Sources close to the musician said that he was battling a drug addiction and depression, which was amplified after his girlfriend broke it off with him on Christmas.

As the Spin noted, the end of 2015 has been a dark time for music and its fans as we just lost Lemmy of Motörhead, the Specials’ John Bradbury and now Guru Josh. RIP.
