‘Star Trek Beyond’ trailer to debut before ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ (Report)

Paramount is hoping that some Star Wars fans are also Trekkies. The studio has reportedly snagged one of the coveted trailer slots before The Force Awakens to unveil the first trailer for Star Trek Beyond.

According to The Hollywood Reporter’s sources, Paramount successfully managed to get one of the trailer slots to show off at least a teaser for the new Trek film.

Of course, it’s a bit coincidental that both Trek and The Force Awakens involve J.J. Abrams. Although Abrams is not directing Star Trek Beyond, he did direct the first two films in the rebooted Trek universe and his Bad Robot is a co-producer on the new film. Abrams turned down Beyond so he could helm The Force Awakens.

Beyond will be released in IMAX theaters worldwide on July 22. It is being directed by Justin Lin.

Disney’s rivals have not been shy about trying to get trailer spots before The Force Awakens, which opens on Dec. 18. 20th Century Fox already nabbed their slot for X-Men: Apocalypse. Warner Bros. is likely to get a slot for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Disney will likely want to show off trailers for Captain America: Civil War, Finding Dory and The Jungle Book.

All this means for filmgoers is that you shouldn’t expect your screening of The Force Awakens to start on time.
