'Star Wars' fan watches 'The Force Awakens' nine times in a row

If you thought you were the biggest Star Wars fan in the world because you've already seen The Force Awakens several times, it's time for you to meet Jim Braden.

As we previously reported, the Alamo Drafthouse recently launched a contest challenging Star Wars fans to sit through as many showings of The Force Awakens as possible in a giant marathon. Seven dedicated fans participated and dropped out when they couldn't take any more, so the winner would be whoever was the last one in the theater.

That winner is 40-year-old Jim Braden, who sat through nine straight viewings of The Force Awakens. Keep in mind that this was after a marathon of the first six Star Wars movies, meaning Braden spent 46 hours watching Star Wars. Sleeping and the use of a smartphone was not permitted.

“We put ourselves through hell mentally and physically,” Braden told Variety. “Watching it became almost a hallucinatory experience...one other guy complained of having chest pains and dropped out.”

Luckily, Braden enjoyed the movie, and he said he came out of the experience still liking it. In fact, even after watching it nine times in a row, he still plans to see The Force Awakens again when his parents come to visit for the holidays. Braden has been rewarded a trophy, a seven-year movie pass to Alamo Drafthouse theaters, and a seat named in his honor.
