Steven Jackson to sign with New England Patriots

Free agent running back Steven Jackson will sign with the New England Patriots.

According to ESPN, Jackson will sign a one-year deal with the Patriots on Monday. He met with the Patriots on Wednesday and worked out with them the next day.

Jackson announced the news on Twitter on Monday by tweeting a pic of him working out with the caption, “I’m back.”

Jackson was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in 2004. He spent nine seasons with the Rams before going to the Atlanta Falcons in 2013. The Falcons released him in February.

Last year with the Falcons, he averaged 3.7 yards per carry and had 855 yards from scrimmage on 210 touches, according to Fox Sports. Jackson has 11,388 rushing yards in his 11-year career and is a three-time Pro Bowler.

The signing of Jackson will help give the Patriots depth and strengthen their backfield. The Patriots have lost running backs LeGarrette Blount and Dion Lewis for the year. They are 12-2 and play the New York Jets on Sunday.
