The mother of Ethan Couch, also known as the “Affluenza” teen, will not fight extradition and will be sent from California back to Texas to face the charge against her.
WFAA reported that Tonya Couch, 48, stood behind a partition in a Los Angeles County courtroom and waived her right to resist extradition.
"Are you the Tonya Couch that is wanted by the State of Texas?" the judge asked. "Do you understand that you are giving up your right to resist extradition to the State of Texas?"
Couch replied, “Yes, Sir.”
As we previously reported, Couch’s son successfully used ‘affluenza’ as his defense to get out of jail time for a fatal car crash two years ago. He claimed that he suffered from “affluenza” because his parents never taught him the difference between right and wrong and was sentenced to 10 years probation for the accident that killed four people. However, during an investigation into whether or not he violated his probation the mother and son were picked up in Mexico late last month.
Tonya Couch’s attorney previously denied that his client did anything wrong and said that she is eager to get back to the Lone Star State. As for her son, he is still currently being held in a detention center in Mexico.
