Baltimore Orioles acquire Efren Navarro from Los Angeles Angels

The Baltimore Orioles acquired outfielder Efren Navarro from the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday.

According to the Associated Press, the Angels will get cash from the Orioles in exchange for Navarro. The Orioles designated outfielder L.J. Hoes for assignment to make room on the roster for Navarro. Hoes was acquired by the Orioles last November in a trade with the Houston Astros.

Navarro was drafted by the Angels in 2007. He has played for the Angels for his entire major league career. Last year he played for Triple-A Salt Lake in addition to the Angels. In 72 games with Salt Lake he hit .329/.380/.442 with two homeruns and 29 RBIs. He hit .253/.295/.301 with four doubles and five RBIs with the Angels last year, according to MLB.com. Navarro has a .300 batting average and 48 homeruns and 495 RBIs in his nine years in the majors.

Navarro, who has primarliy played first base and left field in the majors, will add depth to the Orioles outfield. The Orioles were 81-81 and finished third in the AL East last year.
