BBC America announces Adele special, ‘Doctor Who’ spin-off

BBC America announced a trio of new programs at the Television Critics Association Press Tour on Friday, including a new special with singer Adele.

Up first though is a Doctor Who spin-off called Class. The eight-part series will be the first TV screenplay by author Patrick Ness (A Monster Calls) and will be executive produced by Steven Moffat and Brian Minchin. The show will take place at a contemporary London school and will begin some time this year.

Prey is a six-part series that includes two three-part stores. It will start on Feb. 25 at 10 p.m. and was created and written by Chris Lunt. The first episodes feature John Simm (The Village) as a detective on the run and trying to clear his name. Philip Glenister (Mad Dogs) stars in the second batch as a prison officer whose life is endangered when a person threatens his pregnant daughter.

Lastly, BBC America will give Adele fans a nice Valentine’s Day present with Adele: Live in London. The Graham Norton-hosted special will air on Feb. 14 at 10 p.m.

BBC America also said that it has ordered Dirk Gently straight to series. The project is based on Douglas Adams’ Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency and the first season will run eight episodes. It was written by Max Landis.
