CBS picks up comedy from ‘How I Met Your Mother’ creators, new ‘Nancy Drew’ pilot

CBS picked up a group of pilots on Monday, including one from the creators of How I Met Your Mother. The network also picked up a weird Nancy Drew pilot.

HIMYM creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, along with veteran sitcom writer Hilary Winson, have developed My Time/Your Time. According to Entertainment Weekly, it is inspired by Avital Ash’s five-part web series 7P/10E, which was about a couple learning about each other only through short Skype chats. Like that series, this pilot will focus on a long-distance relationship.

Another pilot that CBS picked up on Tuesday is a head-scratcher. Titled Drew, it will bring Nancy Drew to today’s generation of viewers, albeit in an unexpected way. This time, Nancy will be a “diverse” character and in her 30s. She will already be an NYPD detective who solves crimes. As Deadline notes, this one was written by Grey’s Anatomy vets Joan Ratner and Tony Phelan.

Ratner and Phelan also developed a legal drama called Doubt, which CBS will retool for the new season. This was the pilot that originally starred Laverne Cox.

Lastly, CBS picked up a comedy pilot based on Australia’s Upper Middle Bogan. The family comedy was written by Modern Family’s Dan O’Shannon and the original show’s creators, Robyn Butler and Wayne Hope. The American pilot doesn’t have a title yet.
