Ellen DeGeneres to receive special humanitarian award at People’s Choice Awards

While most of the People’s Choice Awards winners are chosen by fans, Ellen DeGeneres will receive a special one chosen by the producers during the ceremony. The awards will honor the comedian’s humanitarian efforts.

The Ellen Degeneres Show host will receive the Favorite Humanitarian Award during the ceremony on Wednesday. As part of the honor, Walgreens will donate $200,000 to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

DeGeneres said that the award “sums me up perfectly as I am both a human and an itarian” in a statement to the Associated Press.

DeGeneres can also win another award. She was also nominated for Favorite Daytime TV Host. Her competition includes Dr. Oz, Rachael Ray, Steve Harvey and Wendy Williams.

You can vote for your favorite movies, television shows and musicians at Vote.PeoplesChoice.com. The ceremony airs on CBS Wednesday and is hosted by Jane Lynch at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
