Kevin Spacey, Dana Brunetti picked to run Relativity Media

Ryan Kavanaugh’s Relativity Media has hired actor Kevin Spacey and his longtime producing partner, Dana Brunetti, to run the studio. The surprising news comes as Kavanaugh leads his company out of bankruptcy.

Relativity told Deadline that it acquired Spacey and Brunetti’s Trigger Street Productions. Spacey will be chairman of Relativity Studios and Brunetti will be president. They will oversee feature films and scripted television.

The two are expected to take over in February. According to the Los Angeles Times, there is a court hearing on Feb. 1, when a judge will have to approve Relativity’s plan to come out of bankruptcy. They hope that this will allow them to release the films The Disappointments Room, Before I Wake and Kidnap.

Trigger Street has produced House of Cards, which stars Spacey, along with the Best Picture Oscar nominees Captain Phillips and The Social Network.

“Having run an independent production company to now be able to run a studio is a great challenge, and I’ve learned that in the end it’s the risk takers that are rewarded,” Spacey said in a statement.

Relativity filed for bankruptcy in July. The company was founded by Kavanaugh in 2004 and had to sell off its TV division last fall.
