Michael Bay will return to direct 'Transformers 5'

It's official, Michael Bay will be returning to direct the upcoming Transformers 5. Bay is currently on a press tour promoting his latest project 13 Hours: The Secret Solders of Benghazi reflected about the Transformers franchise and that he will be returning.

Back in September, Bay had tweeted that he was in talks to return but nothing had been made official.

While speaking with Rolling Stone he explained that he would be returning but this would be his last time directing for this franchise.

"Transformers, I still have a great time. It’s fun to do a movie that 100 million people will see. But this is the last one. I have to pass the reins to someone else."

This isn't the first time that Bay had said he was going to hand over the franchise to someone else, he has said this two additional times.

"I know. J.J. [Abrams] told me, ‘You’re the only guy that could do this.’ But it’s time to move on. One more," said Bay.

As previously reported, Paramount and Hasbro had been turning their focus to the Transformers franchise, including developing a writers room with top talent in the industry to work on developing this universe. At least four additional movies are in the works for Transformers.

Transformers: Age of Extinction made over $1 billion worldwide.
