Jerry Garcia, the leader of The Grateful Dead, was ungratefully found dead on August 9, 1995, at 4:23 a.m. at Serenity Knolls, a treatment center where Jerry had secretly checked into. Jerry had died of a heart attack at the drug and alcohol treatment center located in San Francisco, California according to the New York Daily News.

The Grateful Dead is home to a huge counter-culture cult following known as Deadheads. Even with their enormous following, they only had one top 100 hit called “A Touch of Grey,” which had earned them further popularity since its release in 1987 according to the New York Daily News.
