Vince Young arrested for DWI, jail protocol violated

Former Texas Longhorns and NFL quarterback Vince Young was arrested for DWI and upon his release the jail’s protocol was violated.

The American-Statesman reported that a female picked Young up from the Travis County Jail in Texas on Monday morning. However, she only drove up to the jail’s vehicle area while the former signal caller was released inside the building before the two left together in an SUV.

Those actions violated the standard protocol of having everyone released outside the jail and then having them walk out the front entrance of the building.

“It was a new supervisor’s error in judgment, and we’ll make sure it doesn’t happen again,” said Roger Wade, Travis County sheriff’s office spokesman. “The supervisor took pity on the man and let him go out the back door.”

Wade went onto say that the incident will be addressed and handled accordingly.

Young was initially brought to the jail and booked for DWI after he was stopped and refused to take a breathalyzer. His bail was set for $2,000.

ESPN noted that the 32-year-old retired from the NFL in 2014 after stints with the Tennessee Titans and Philadelphia Eagles. He currently works as a diversity and community engagement officer making about $100,000 a year as well as working for Longhorn Network since his retirement.
