George Clooney reveals it took his wife Amal 25 minutes to answer to his proposal

George Clooney and his wife, Amal, are now happily married, but the actor revealed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that the proposal didn’t go as smoothly as he had hoped.

Clooney told DeGeneres that to say the proposal caught Amal off guard was an understatement, because it took her a total of 25 minutes to gather her thoughts.

Clooney had his aunt Rosemary Clooney’s song “Why Shouldn't I" playing in the background during the proposal, during which he cooked dinner for her and decided to surprise her with the ring at home.

He said he told her to grab a box that he put the ring in, but when she opened it she didn’t get that it was for her.

"She’s like, 'It’s a ring.' Like, as if somebody had left it there some other time,” he laughed. “I don’t know. And I’m doing all the moves you can do with my face and I got down on my knee and said, 'I couldn’t imagine spending the rest of my life without you.' And she kept looking at the ring, and she was looking at me, and she was like, 'Oh my God.' And we now know, because there was a playlist, how long it actually took, and it was like 25 minutes."

Clooney added, “Finally I literally said, 'Look, I hope the answer is yes, but I need an answer. I’m 52 and I could throw out my hip pretty soon.’ And she said, 'Oh, yes.' And it worked out really well."
