‘Hamilton’ cast to perform during Grammys

The cast of the Broadway smash hit Hamilton will perform live during the Grammys. They won’t be flying out to Los Angeles though.

CBS and the Recording Academy announced today that the cast will perform live at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York during the main Grammys broadcast via satellite. It’s the fourth time ever that the Grammys have included a live via satellite performance and is the first time in five years that a Broadway cast has performed during the ceremony.

This is only the eighth time that the Grammys have featured a Broadway cast. Previous casts that performed during the Grammys include Godspell, La Cage Aux Follies, Riverdance and American Idiot.

The Hamilton cast recording is up for a Grammy. The show, created by Lin-Manuel Miranda, will start its national tour in March 2017 in San Francisco. It is based on the life of Alexander Hamilton.

“The Hamilton cast and crew are absolutely thrilled to be a part of this year’s GRAMMY Awards,” Miranda said in a statement. “The music community’s response to our cast album has been overwhelming and we’re honored to be a part of such a special night. To perform from our home at the Richard Rodgers Theatre is a dream come true.”

The Grammys are on Monday, Feb. 15 on CBS. The ceremony will also include a tribute to David Bowie by Lady Gaga.
