Jared Allen announces retirement in fitting video (See it)

After 12 years in the NFL, defensive end Jared Allen announced that he is retiring and riding off into the sunset via a video of him riding off into the sunset, well sort of.

In the video posted on his Twitter account, Allen appears on horseback and explains that while he would like to say that he is riding off into the sunset, there was no sun out at that time so instead he was simply just riding off.

The 33-year-old played for the Kansas City Chiefs, the Minnesota Vikings, the Chicago Bears and most recently the Carolina Panthers last season. He is a five-time Pro Bowler and caps off his career with 136 sacks, which is ninth on the all-time list.

In addition to the video, Allen released a statement to the Charlotte Observer thanking his friends, family and fans for all the support he received throughout his career.

"I want to take this time to thank my family, friends, fans and teammates who have given their continued support throughout my 12 year career,” the statement read. “It’s been a great ride for me and I couldn’t be more grateful for the memories. It is with a great deal of thought and consideration that I have decided that I will not return to football next year. I want to thank the Carolina Panthers, Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings and the Kansas City Chiefs organizations, who provided me with an opportunity to live out my dream and to be a part of their wonderful communities. Thanks for the life long memories.”
