Joe Alaskey, longtime ‘Looney Tunes’ voice actor, dies at 63

Joe Alaskey, who brought Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and other Looney Tunes characters to life for years, has died. He was 63.

His spokesperson confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that he died from cancer.

Alaskey was among the voice actors Warner Bros. tasked with continuing the legacy of Mel Blanc, who died in 1989. While he mostly focused on Bugs and Daffy, he also voiced Sylvester, Tweety and Plucky Duck. You hear Alaskey’s voice in Who Framed Roger Rabbit? as Yosemite Sam.

As CNN notes, Alaskey was also the voice of Grandpa Lou Pickles in Nickelodeon’s Rugrats franchise. He was also the voice of Richard Nixon in Forrest Gump.

In 2004, Alaskey won a Daytime Emmy for his work on Cartoon Network’s Duck Dodgers series.

Alaskey’s family recently set up a Facebook page, where fans can leave their condolences. They also created a new website to highlight his work.
