Judge rules prosecution can move forward with Bill Cosby sex assault case despite ‘deal’

A Pennsylvania judge ruled on Feb. 3 that the case against disgraced comedian Bill Cosby will not be tossed out on the basis of a verbal deal between his lawyers and a former district attorney.

As NBC news noted, Cosby’s legal team argued that the 78-year-old not be prosecuted based on 2005 deal with the Montgomery County District Attorney's office. However, there was nothing in writing and the current DA countered that any old deal wasn't a binding agreement.

Of his decision Judge Steven O'Neill said that "there was no basis to grant the relief requested" for the actor. Therefore, the prosecution can now move forward with their case against him. The case stems from 2004 when Andrea Constand, a former employee at Cosby’s alma mater Temple University, said the comedian sexually assaulted her at his home.

In the last year, dozens of women have come forward accusing the one-time beloved TV dad of drugging and assaulting them. Cosby, however, denies any wrongdoing.
