Man accused of stalking Gwyneth Paltrow found not guilty

Gwyneth Paltrow’s alleged stalker of more than a decade and a half was found not guilty in a Los Angeles courtroom on Feb. 17.

ET Online reported that a jury did not find Dante Michael Soiu, 66, guilty of stalking the actress after he allegedly sent her unsolicited gifts and letters over the last 17 years. Prosecutors said some of those letters made references to her death and pornography.

Soiu's lawyer, Lynda Westlund, countered those claims and said that her client has written letters to many other Hollywood stars in the past who do not see his notes as a threat.

"We're dealing with a lonely guy who's on supplemental security income and sits in his apartment in Ohio at his computer and writes letters to Angelina Jolie, Sylvester Stallone, Julia Roberts, President Obama, Michelle Obama," Westlund said. "None of it has ever been perceived by anybody else, besides Gwyneth Paltrow, as threatening."

As we previously noted, Paltrow testified against Soiu in court last week and told the jury that she feared for her safety. The jurors said that while they thought the actress was a credible witness, they did not believe that Soiu intended to scare her and his actions did not equate to felony stalking.
