Michael B. Jordan, ‘Empire’ and ‘Black-ish’ have big nights at NAACP Image Awards

Michael B. Jordan, Creed and Straight Outta Compton were the big winners in film categories at the 47th annual NAACP Image Awards in Pasadena, California on Feb. 5. Empire and Black-ish also took home a handful of awards in the TV categories.

Creed picked up a number of awards, although it lost Outstanding Motion Picture to Compton. However, Jordan won Outstanding Actor and Phylicia Rashad won Outstanding Supporting Actress. Ryan Coogler and Aaron Covington won Outstanding Writing and Coogler won Outstanding Directing. Jordan was also named Entertainer of the Year.

ABC’s Black-ish practically swept the comedy TV categories, winning Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Actor (Anthony Anderson), Outstanding Actress (Tracee Ellis Ross) and Outstanding Supporting Supporting Actress (Marsai Martin). Mike Epps of Survivor’s Remorse was named Outstanding Supporting Actor.

Fox’s Empire had a great night on the Drama side, winning Outstanding Drama Series, Actor (Terrence Howard) and Actress (Taraji P. Henson).

On the music side, Jussie Smollett won New Artist and Pharrell Williams won Male Artist. Jill Scott won Female Artist.
