OJ Simpson's lawyer says OJ is displeased with FX's 'The People vs. OJ Simpson'

While the buzz has been building for FX's star-studded series The People vs. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story since its teaser trailer premiered back in October, OJ Simpson himself is less than excited for the highly anticipated TV event.

The New York Post reported that one of Simpson's lawyers, Malcom LaVergne, said that Simpson is displeased with the series, but not because of how he himself is portrayed - namely, by actor Cuba Gooding Jr - rather, it's the series' portrayal of Simpson's defense lawyer Johnnie Cochran, played by Courtney B. Vance.

The series, which premieres Feb. 2 on FX, is based on the bestselling book The Run of His Life: The People vs. O.J. Simpson by Jeffrey Toobin. Toobin, who also served as a consultant for the production, explained to Vulture why it took over two decades to bring the famous case to the small screen.

"One of the reasons why I think no one ever did a movie or TV version previously is because there were two misconceptions: that people were sick of it, and everybody knew the story already," he said. "I always knew that both of those were wrong."
