Sarah Michelle Gellar officially returning for ‘Cruel Intentions’ pilot

NBC has succeeded in wooing Sarah Michelle Gellar to reprise her role from Cruel Intentions in the network’s sequel pilot.

Gellar starred in the original 1999 film and it was rumored earlier this month that she was being asked to star in the pilot. She confirmed that she will be back to play Kathryn again on Instagram.

Gellar posted an old photo of herself with director Roger Kumble and executive producer Neal Moritz, along with a new picture of the trio on production of the pilot.

“That's right ‘everybody loves me, and I intend to keep it that way’ #kathrynmerteuil is back!!!” she wrote. “I am happy to say that I will be joining them (and@nbctv ) on the new #Crueltv.”

News of the pilot first surfaced in October. The plan is to pick up the story 15 years after the film ended, following the adventures of Bash Casey, the son of Ryan Phillippe’s and Reese Witherspoon’s characters. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Taylor John Smith will play Bash and Sophina Brown is also co-starring.

The pilot will be written by Kumble with Lindsey Rosin and Jordan Ross and is a Sony Pictures TV production.

Gellar currently has a voice role on Star Wars Rebels and starred on CBS’ The Crazy Ones with Robin Williams. She remains best known as the star of Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
